I think we can all agree that the last few months have been a bit intense right? Phew, I am worn out! But you know what? It’s the summertime…. So it’s time to have fun, enjoy the sun (hopefully) and surrender to the silliness.
That phrase is something that I may appoint as my new life motto; ‘Surrender to the silliness’, I could even get it on a t-shirt! Anywho, the reason I am sharing this with you is because the world is so serious at the moment and it’s getting to me! Sometimes I just feel sad and I don’t really know why, but lucky for you, I have worked out why! I think it’s because I spend a lot of my time in front a computer working in my home ‘office’ and I just have those silly interactions with my friends and colleagues that normally get me through the day! I can’t go and lead a stupid game that epically fails at assembly and I can’t make a fool of myself on the football pitch with my mates and have a giggle.
I am generally a pretty silly and childish person, but the lockdown has lead to a frightening restriction on my ability to have fun. So my proposal this summer is that everyone tries at the very least to do one funny, silly or strange thing a day that just makes people giggle. The giggle is a very underrated emotional reaction that I believe is the best. Is there anything more heart-warming and life-giving than a giggling baby?
Build rival pillow forts in your lounge and declare a pillow war on your siblings; replace your cutlery with carrot sticks for an entire day, you could even go to the shops dressed as your favourite superhero! The possibilities are endless!
I guess what I want to get across in this short thought of mine is to try and make the world a little brighter. Joy is such an important word in the bible, Nehemiah 810 says, “The Joy of the Lord is your strength.” In everything you do try and show the joy that God gives us. Be fun. Be silly. Make someone smile. The world needs more smiles at the moment!
